Who is Ms. Beardsley?!

Welcome back to a brand new school year!  I’m sure you are much more excited than your children that another summer has come to a close.  I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Jaclyn Beardsley, and I will be your student’s music teacher for the 2011-2012 school year.  I, myself, am an alumni of St. John Eudes School and am very eager to be a part of a school community that I know fosters not only academic excellence, but also a strong spiritual foundation.  After graduating from SJE, I remained active in the Music Ministry at the church while pursuing a future in music and other areas of the performing arts.  I recently graduated summa cum laude from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.  I had the honor of singing in various world-renowned choirs during my time there while also earning my degree in Music Education and a teaching credential.  I have taught at various levels from Pre-K through 12th grade, and I have big plans for the music classroom this year.

My overall philosophy of music education is that every student is capable of and should be given the opportunity to make music.  Music is creative, intellectual, imaginative, and most importantly, communicative.  In my classroom, I strive for an environment where students feel like they are working with me to create music together.  I believe that the classroom should be an appropriate dialogue between the students and me, in which we are all transformed and can learn from each other.  On the school music website (www.sjemusic.weebly.com), you can view both my full philosophy of teaching and music education.

At SJE, there are many opportunities for music to transcend the four classroom walls.  At Christmastime, the students will be putting on a Christmas Pageant on December 14th. (details will follow at a later date).  There are also two choirs that your student can be a part of!  The Children’s Choir is open to all students and we rehearse every Friday directly after our shortened day schedule from 12:50-2:30 (Please send your child with a lunch).  This choir sings at 9:00 mass once a month as part of the Children’s Liturgies and puts on two musicals a year.  The Christmas musical this year will be December 24th.  Heaven’s Grace is a select ensemble that is open to students grades 4-8 who wish to sing at the monthly school liturgies.

Thank you, and I am so excited to make music with your child this year!  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at jaclyn@stjohneudes.org and please visit the website for any school and Children’s Choir information.

God bless!

"I will sing of your love and justice; to you, Lord, I will sing praise." Psalm 101:1
